    Wine Tourism

    Istoria viticulturii pe melea-gurile noastre numr ctevamilenii. n anul 1359, cnd afost ntemeiat ara Moldo-vei, cultivarea viei de vie erauna dintre ramurile de bazale acestui stat feodal. Seco-le la rnd au fost consolidatetradiiile de ngrijire a viei devie ind identicate locurile

    pe care cresc mai bine anu-mite soiuri. Deja pe la mijlo-cul sec. XV, a avut loc un felde divizare a acestei culturin trei grupuri, n funcie desoiuri: de origine silvic (lo-cale) ameliorate pe parcur-sul deceniilor, al doilea grup via de vie adus de ctregreci, iar cel de-al treilea grup

    l-am motenit de la colonitiiromani. Un anumit impactasupra dezvoltrii viticulturiidin Moldova au avut atuncii Ungaria, i Turcia, i chiarTranscaucazia.n prezent, n Moldova suntcultivate peste 100 de soiuride vi-de-vie.Via-de-vie este cultivat n

    ara noastr n patru arealesau zone de baz: central(Codrii), sud-estic, sudic inordic, divizate, la rndullor, n microzone.

    The history of viticultureof this place counts severalthousand years back. In 1359,the Moldovan Principality wasformed for the viticulture tobecome the leading branchof the feudal state. For cen-turies there were developedthe customs of viniviticulture,selected land plots suitable

    for one or another grape sort.Already the middle of XV cen-tury saw a kind of division ofgrapes into three sorts: forestgrapes (local sorts) cultivatedfor decades; grapes importedby the Greeks; also grapesorts as heritage from the Ro-mans. Hungary, Turkey andTranscaucasia inuenced the

    developed of the Moldovanviticulture either.Every zone is distinguishabledue to its peculiar character-istic features. For instance, theNorthern Zone is remarkablefor cultivation of grape sortsused for brandy alcohols andsweet wines. The table grapesare also cultivated in this

    zone. The Northern Zone ofMoldova is specialized in cul-tivation of such sorts of whitegrapes as Aligote, Pinot,Feteasca, Traminer.

    producerea de vinuri uoare.Tot aici se a i majoritateafabricilor de vin, precum ihrubele pentru pstrarea vi-nurilor cunoscute deja n toa-t lumea Cricova, MiletiiMici, Brneti etc. n micro-zona Hnceti este situat oalt ntreprindere cu renume Vitis-Hnceti unde deja

    de mai bine de un secol suntproduse vinurile roii de stru-guri Cabernet Sauvignon iMerlot, nite licori divine, dealtfel.Zona Sud-estic (sau Purcari)se ntinde de-a lungul Nistru-lui. Zona este numit Purcaripentru c aici se a ntre-prinderea Purcari o bijute-

    rie a vinicaiei din zon. Peplantaiile din zona Sud-esticsunt crescute soiurile Mer-lot, Cabernet Sauvignon,Rara Neagr etc. din careeste obinut o butur cu oarom unic i cu un buchetbogat.     duction of light wines. Herethe greater part of the Mol-dovan vineyards is concen-tratedabout 60 per cent ofall area under cultivation ofgrapes. The zone also hoststhe greatest number of win-eries, among which thereare world acclaimed vault-deposits Cricova, Milesti

    Mici, Branesti and others.Another famous enterpriseVitis-Hincesti is locatedin the micro-zone Hincesti,which has been producingdivine red wines from grapesCabernet-Sauvignon andMerlot in the course ofover 100 years.The South-Eastern Zone

    (or Purcari Zone) stretchesalong the Nistru River. Thiszone is also referred to asPurcari Zone and this is notin vain: the enterprise Pur-cari the pearl of localwine-making is located inthis place. The winery is fa-mous for its red wines Rosude Purcari and Negru de

    Purcari. The South-EasternZone is suitable for cultiva-tion of such grapes as Mer-lot, Cabernet-Sauvignon,Rara Neagra and othersthat are used to producewines of unique aroma andrich bouquet. By the close ofthe last but one century, Pur-cari wines were supplied toRoyal British table. At pres-ent, Purcari operates a ho-tel, tasting halls, recreation

    facilities, therefore visitorsare able both to get fa-miliar with viti-vinicultureand relax themselves.The Southern Zone cov-

    ers the Budjak steeps andthe entire southern part ofthe republic. The natural-climatic conditions of thiszone are favorable for cul-tivation of grapes neces-sary for the production ofred and dessert wines. Thecenters of viti-vinicultureof the zone are Comrat,

    Taraclia, Ciumai and Tri-festi.People in Moldova havebeen investing their re-sources, knowledge, ex-perience and soul into thecultivation of vine. Theresults of these eorts areobvious: it is a rare sightto see a house without a

    vine twisting around. Vinewill be even portrayedin a monument to be in-stalled in a Wine City con-structed in the outskirts ofChisinau. Vine is gloriedin songs and verses; it isperpetuated in canvasesand architecture in formof mosaic and modeling.

    It is impossible to imag-ine Moldova without vine.Even the mapped outlineof Moldova resembles to acluster of grapes!

    Barza alb este reprezentatcu un ciorchine n cioc. Aces-ta este simbolul viticulturiii vinicaiei moldoveneti.Pn n timpurile noastres-au pstrat mai multe le-gende despre barz, ca deexemplu cele despre istoriacetilor Horodite i Soroca.

    Aceste legende sunt asem-ntoare, iar moldovenii credcu trie n adevrul lor.Potrivit primei legende, ce-tatea Horodite era asediatde otile turceti. La un mo-ment, apa i hrana n ceta-te s-a terminat. Aprtoriiacesteia erau sleii de puteri.Inamicul ncepuse deja s

    The symbol of the Moldovanvitiviniculture is a white stock,a cluster of white grape in itsbeak. People used to narratelegends about storks ever sinceremote times, as for example,

    the legends about Gorodestiand Soroca Fortresses. Theselegends are alike as two peas,yet the Moldovans believe thatthe story is authentic.The rst legend reads thatGorodesti Fortress was be-sieged by the Turkish army,when the defenders of thecitadel experienced shortageof water and food. The forceswere exhausted. The enemiesstarted celebrating the victory,when the storks appeared inthe skies. There were so manybirds, that the spread of theirwings produced a strong windfor the janissary to bend downto earth. The storks broughtclusters of grapes in theirbeaks that were thrown down

    to the besieged. The hungryand exhausted defenders ofthe fortress quickly restoredtheir stamina: grapes providedfor food, water and removedall weariness. The battle waswon and the enemy defeated.Apropos, Moldova producesa brand of wine, which nameincludes the name of the leg-

    endary village - Horodiste.

    refer la o alt cetate, Soroca,

    care se mai nal pe malul

    Nistrului, n oraul Soroca.

    Forticaia era ncercuit de

    otirea numeroas a du-

    manului. Inamicul nu reuea

    s treac de zidurile nalte

    i porile rezistente, aa ca decis s asedieze cetatea.

    Confruntarea a durat cteva

    luni. Prea c cei din interior

    ar trebuit s moar demult

    de foame. Cnd la cetatea

    asediat a ajuns n sfrit ar-

    mata domnitorului moldo-

    vean, s-a constatat c toi cei

    din fortreaa de piatr suntvii. Miracolul s-a dezlegat

    n felul urmtor: n cetate i

    aveau cuiburile mai multe

    berze. Psrile aduceau hra-

    n pentru puii lor ciorchine

    de poam, din care mncau

    i otenii.

    The second legend is con-

    nected to another fortress,

    which has survived till nowa-

    days upstanding onto the

    bank of the Nistru River in

    Soroca town. This fortica-tion was besieged by num-

    berless enemy troops. The

    enemy could not conquer

    the thick high walls and the

    rm gates of the fortress and

    therefore the siege lasted for

    several months. According to

    all thinkable and unthinkable

    rules, the besieged shouldhave long ago died from

    thirst and hunger. Yet, when

    the fortress was liberated by

    the troops of the Moldovan

    Voivode, they found the resi-

    dents of the citadel safe and

    sound. As it was discovered,

    the stocks with nestling were

    nesting in the fort and theparent-birds brought grape

    clusters to their young, and

    aditionnally fed the warriors.

    People in Moldova believe

    that storks bring happiness

    and well-being!
