    The life quality of about 97% of European citizens which areliving in urban areas is directly influenced by the urbanenvironment state, these ones being exposed at pollutionlevels which exceed the qualitative objectives established forthe EU. The high quality of the urban environment contributesat achieving the priority established through the new Strategyfrom Lisbon, namely:

    Planul Urbanistic General (PUG) elaborat pentru Bucure[ti esteorientat c\tre stimularea dezvolt\rii economice, sociale [ispa]iale, conform principiilor dezvolt\rii durabile. Astfel, esteasigurat\ o ofert\ ct mai diversificat\ necesar\ atrageriiinvesti]iilor publice [i private, respectnd `n acela[i timpinteresele na]ionale, ale comunit\]ii locale [i ale fiec\ruilocuitor.

    n prezent Bucure[tiul se confrunt\ cu serioase probleme dinpunct de vedere al asigur\rii unui cadru de via]\ s\n\tospentru cet\]enii s\i, calitatea aerului fiind un factor de mediuinfluen]at negativ de multiple surse de poluare. Poluarea

    aerului in municipiul Bucure[ti are un caracter specific datorit\,in primul rnd condi]iilor de emisie, respectiv existen]ei unorsurse multiple, `n\l]imi diferite ale surselor de poluare, precumsi o reparti]ie neuniform\ a acestor surse, dispersate `ns\ pe

    ntreg teritoriul ora[ului.

    Astfel, Bucure[tiul estedatorit\ traficului intens, centralelor electrotermice [i

    industriei (rolul acesteia din urm\ sc\znd numai n ultimii anidatorit\ reducerii activit\]ii industriale urbane ct [i a m\suriloradecvate de protec]ie deja puse n practic\). Cu o distribu]ie deaproximativ 37% dintre autoturisme mai vechi de 8 ani(378 mii din totalul de peste 1 milion, conform celor mairecente date nregistrate la Registrul Auto Romn - RAR) [i cu operspectiv\ de cre[tere continu\ a parcului auto (de aprox.10-15% n ultimii ani), traficul de]ine o cot\ important\ din

    nivelul polu\rii (92% din totalul polu\rii atmosferice cu Nox ncentrul urban). Pe locul doi, conform inventarelor de emisii, seafl\ centralele termice la majoritatea poluan]ilor (de exp. 92%din poluarea cu SO ), urmnd industria poluatoare (utilaje,industria chimic\, industria u[oar\, etc., principal contribuabilla poluarea cu PM, unde numai 27% sunt datorate centralelortermice si 26% traficului), aceste surse fiind amplasate pe zone

    ntinse din estul, vestul [i sudul ora[ului. O importan]\semnificativ\ o are impactul polu\rii [i n plan tri-dimensional,odat\ cu intensificarea construirii cartierelor cu blocuri de cte10 niveluri.

    O alt\ particularitate a Bucure[tiului, din punct de vedereurbanistic, [i care contribuie la un nivel de poluare ridicat estefaptul c\ principalele artere [i bulevarde ale ora[ului suntdispuse `n form\ de stea al c\rei centru coincide cu centrulora[ului, acestea reprezentnd principalele conexiuni alecentrului cu celelalte zone ale ora[ului Astfel, acestconcept urbanistic este vizibil dep\[it de nivelul de dezvoltare [iexpansiune a ora[ului, precum [i de traficul tot mai intens alunui parc auto `n continu\ cre[tere, perspectivele deterior\riipermanente a calit\]ii aerului fiind evidente [i ngrijor\toare.

    Bucure[tiul va deveni o metropol\ European\,avnd un rol regional, continental [i inter-continentalbine definit

    In June 2003 The European Commission has launched theStrategy regarding Environment & Health, document whichpropose an integrated approach including a close co-operationbetween the relevant sectors as health, environment andresearch. Thus the added value consists on development of aSystem at the Community level which integrates informationregarding the environment state, ecosystem and humanhealth. The effects of the environment state on the vulnerable

    groups represent an aspect on which is granted particularattention. The Strategy grants a special attention to childrenbecause of the exposure and vulnerability on these are muchbigger then for adults. Thus, the present challenge consists onapplying the commitments taken regarding the children rightsto grow in a healthy environment, underlined not only withinthe Strategy, but also within the Convention of the ChildrenRights and in The World Summit for Sustainable Development.

    is the capital and the biggest city in Romania asarea and population (2 millions citizens, the urban areacovering a 228 sq Km area). Bucharest is the single city inRomania with metropolitan area status.

    The development strategy for the municipal and metropolitanarea of Bucharest has been elaborated for a horizon of time upto 2025. The vision of this strategy is that

    The General Urbanistic Plan (GUP) for Bucharest Municipality isfocused on stimulating economical, social and spatialdevelopment, according to sustainable development principles.Thus, it is ensured a much diversified offer necessary to attractpublic and private investments, respecting in the same time theinterests at national, local community and each citizen level.

    Presently, the Bucharest Municipality has serious problems inensuring a healthy life environment for its citizens, the airquality being an environmental aspect negatively influenced bythe multiple pollution sources. The air pollution in Bucharesthas a specific character firstly because of the emissionconditions, respectively the existence of multiple sources,

    various heights of pollution sources, as well as a non uniformspreading of these pollution sources, dispersed on the wholecity area.

    Thus, Bucharest isbecause of the intense traffic, thermal power plants, andindustry (the latters role decreased only in the last few yearsdue to a reduced industrial activity, and due to alreadyenforced measures for protection). With a distribution ofapproximately 37% for auto vehicles older than 8 years(378 thousand. out of a total of 1 million, according the mostrecent data of Romanian Auto Register - RAR) and with aperspective for continuous increasing of the vehicle park (ofapprox. 10-15% in the last years), traffic has got an importantquota from the pollution level (92% of total atmosphericpollution with NOx in the city centre). On the second place,

    according to emission inventories are the thermal power plantsfor major pollutants (e.g. 92% of the SO pollution), followingthe polluting industry (equipments, chemical industry, apparelindustry etc. main contributor to pollution with PM, where only27% are attributable to thermal power plants, and 26% totraffic), these sources being placed on a wide area, from east towest and south of the city. A significant importance has alsothe 3-dimmensional pollution impact, once with the increasedconstruction of residential areas with 10 level apartmentsblocks.

    Another particularity of Bucharest city, from urbanistic point ofview, and which contributes at a high level of pollution is thatthe main avenues and boulevards of the city are in a star shapeand its centre is the centre of the city also, these representingthe main connexions between the centre with the other areasof the city Thus, this urbanistical concept is clearlyover fulfilled by the development and expansion rate of thecity, as well as by the increased traffic of a continuouslydeveloping auto vehicle park. The perspectives of a permanentdeterioration of the air quality are quite evident andconcerning.

    Bucharest willbecome a European metropolis, having a well definedregional, continental and inter-continental role

    n contextul inventarierii surselor de emisii n Bucure[ti, dar [ipentru a crea un cadru de informare reciproc\ [i colaborare nvederea diminu\rii impactului acestor surse asupra calit\]iiaerului, Agen]ia pentru Protec]ia Mediului Bucure[ti (APMB) aprimit concursul [i suportul unora dintre agen]ii industrialiprezen]i pe teritoriul administrativ al Bucure[tiului n demersulcomun de a proteja [i cre[te calitatea vie]ii urbane, cu care a

    ncheiat protocoale de colaborare, precum:

    ~n ceea ce prive[te perspectiva s\n\t\]ii publice exist\ raport\riprivind afec]iuni [i mboln\viri datorate impactului polu\riiatmosferice. Astfel, morbiditatea infantil\ specific\ grupei devrst\ 0-1 an datorat\ bolilor respiratorii define[te o clas\ deindicatori de s\n\tate deosebit de relevant\ n contextulpolu\rii urbane, datorit\ faptului c\ aceast\ categorie desubiec]i au o mobilitate redus\ [i sunt cei mai afecta]i demediul nconjur\tor locuin]ei, oferind o bun\ descrierestochastic\ a calit\]ii mediului. Datele rezultate pot ficomparate cu h\r]ile actuale [i de prognoz\ privind poluarea nvederea elabor\rii politicilor de alarmare public\ [i prevenireprivind s\n\tatea [i mediul. Autoritatea pentru S\n\tatePublic\ Bucure[ti a identificat acele unit\]i medicale care vor

    alimenta sistemul AIR-AWARE cu date [i indicatori de s\n\tate,unul dintre criteriile ce au stat la baza nominaliz\rii fiindreprezentativitatea acestor unit\]i (ca tip, loca]ie a sursei dedate) pentru efectul cumulat al polu\rii industriale, reziden]iale[i traficului, n condi]iile existen]ei unor condi]ii climaticespecifice.

    Pentru sursele de poluare de suprafa]\ datorate traficului, acesteasunt furnizate [i actualizate prin campanii de m\sur\tori de c\treDepartamentul de Cercetare al Registrului Auto Romn,colaborator n cadrul proiectului.

    In the context of inventory of emission sources responsible forair pollution in Bucharest, but also to create a mutualinformation and co-operation framework in order to reducethe impact of these sources on air quality, the BucharestsEnvironmental Protection Agency (EPA-B) benefited of thes up p or t of s ev er a l ind us tr ies op er at ing w ithin theadministrative territory of Bucharest, both with the commoninterest for protecting and improving the quality of life in theurban area, and with which have been concluded cooperationprotocols, as follows:

    From the public health perspective current reporting includesdiseases and illnesses due to atmospheric pollution impact.Thus, the specific 0-1 years children morbidity of respiratorydisease defines a class of health indicators extremely relevantfor the urban pollution context, due to the fact that thiscategory of subjects have little mobility and are highly affectedby the local home environment, offering a good stochasticdescription of the quality of their environment. The resulteddata shall be compared with the air pollution actual andforecasted mapping in order to document sanitaryenvironmental warning and prevention policies. The Public

    Health Authority of Bucharest (APH-B) identified those medicalunits which will feed the AIR-AWARE system with data andhealth indicators. One of the criteria used for selecting theseunits was the representativity (as type, location of data source)for the cumulated effect of industrial, residential and trafficpollution, in the context of existing specific climatic conditions.

    Metodele specifice de determinare a indicatorilor des\n\tate se aliniaz\ la tehnicile [tiin]ifice interna]ionale

    n domeniu: astfel ASP-B va util iza clasificareapersoanelor afectate pe baza a 4 grupe, [i anume: toatevrstele, 0-14 ani (copii), 15-64 ani (adul]i), 65+ ani(vrstnici), un indicator specific polu\rii urbane care va fi

    considerat n proiect fiind indicatorii de s\n\tate avndcodul D (mortalitate post-neonatal\, n care vor fi inclusedatele aferente cazurilor de deces pentru vrste cuprinse

    ntre 1 lun\ [i 11 luni).Un alt aspect important ce necesit\ aten]ia speciali[tiloreste reprezentat de identificarea [i utilizarea bio-indicatorilor (plante si animale) n monitorizarea calit\]iiaerului n zonele urbane. Ace[tia reac]ioneaz\ la efecteleasupra mediului, modificndu-[i func]iile vitale [i/sauc o m p o z i ] i a c h i m i c \ , n u m \ r u l , d i s t r i b u t i aspa]ial\/temporal\, f\cnd astfel posibil\ emiterea unorconcluzii privind starea mediului. Bioindicatoriiconsidera]i n proiect pot fi grupa]i n dou\ categorii, [ianume: indicatori de acumulare [i indicatori de r\spuns.Primii nmagazineaz\ cantit\]i de poluant f\r\ a

    prezenta schimb\ri evidente n metabolismul acestora.Indicatorii de r\spuns reac]ioneaz\ vizibil prezentndsimptome de deteriorare. Indicatorii de acumulare potreac]iona similar indicatorilor de r\spuns n cazul n carecantit\] i le de substan]e d\un\toare dep\[esccapacitatea lor de acumulare.

    The specific methods for determining the health indicators arein line with domain-related international scientific techniques:thus APH-B will use classification of the affected people on a 4groups base namely: all ages, 0-14 years (children), 15-64years (adults), 65+ years (old), a specific indicator for urbanpollution to be considered within the project being the health

    indicators with code D (post-neonatal mortality, in which casesof decease between 1 month and 11 months of age shall beincluded).

    Another important aspect which needs specialists attention isrepresented by the identification and use of bio-indicators(plants and animals) for air quality monitoring in urban areas.These organisms react to environmental effects by changingtheir vital functions and/or their chemical composition,number, spatial/temporal distribution thus making it possibleto draw conclusions on the state of the environment" (Arndt etal. 1987). Bio indicators considered within the project could begrouped in two categories, namely: accumulation indicatorsand response indicators. The first ones store pollutantswithout any obvious changes in their metabolisms. Response

    indicators react with v is ible symptoms of damage.Accumulation indicators could react as response indicators incase on which the amounts of harmful substances exceed theircarrying capacity..

    Scopul Proiectului

    Proiectul AIR-AWARE [i propune s\ implementeze unsistem pilot de prognoz\ a polu\rii aerului, evaluareaimpactului acesteia asupra st\rii de s\n\tate apopula]iei [i avertizarea factorilor responsabili, ncorelare cu planurile de dezvoltare urbanistic\ petermen scurt, mediu [i lung n zona Bucure[ti.

    De asemenea, sistemul AIR-AWARE constituie un instrumentdeosebit de util ce va permite luarea deciziei, avnd o baz\complex\ de informa]ii deterministe geo-referen]iate, pentrudocumentarea, prevenirea [i diminuarea pericolului dedegradare cronic\ [i accidental\ a calit\]ii aerului, att `nbeneficiul popula]iei ct [i al mediului.

    Reunirea `ntr-un singur sistem: monitorizarea, prognoza,studiul impactului, aplicarea [i planificarea `n domeniul calit\]iiaerului, `ntr-un punct fierbinte precum Bucure[tiul va conducela crearea unui instrument al dezvolt\rii durabile `nmanagementul calit\]ii aerului `n mediul urban.

    The Project scope

    The AIR-AWARE project will build a pilot air qualitymonitoring and forecasting system, which will assessthe impact on peoples health, and will warn theresponsible institutions, in correlation with land-usemunicipal planning on short, medium and long term inBucharest area.

    Sistemul AIR-AWARE va integra urm\toarele sub-sisteme: The AIR AWARE System will integrate the following sub-systems:

    For most European citizens, the future is an urban one, and in adensely populated Europe, the sustainable development ofurban areas is essential to the well-being of the Community asa whole.Thus, through the scope of the project and through directaccess to results, the citizens inhabiting in densely populatedurban areas, and affected by frequent episodes of air pollutionresulting impacts on the public health, are the final beneficiaryof the innovative AIR-AWARE system implementation.Information and inter-communication at the level ofcommunities is needed for social and economic situationanalysis, identification of issues and problems, mobilization ofresources, specific message design and delivery, and constantfeedback. The environment becomes a major preoccupationfor the European citizen and efforts to facilitate the access ofthe general public to results of avant-gardist environmentalprojects are important.

    The Romanian Meteorological Service was set up in July 1884, being one of the oldest scientific institutions in Romania.Romania is a member of the World Meteorological Organization starting with 1948.The , settled through Law 216/2004, is a Romanian legal entity, ofnational, public interest, whose main aim is to ensure the meteorological protection of li fe and property.

    Supplying information on weather, forecasts and warnings to the community, mostly through the media;

    Supplying a wide range of operational meteorological services to the important users like: agriculture, maritime andair navigation, national defence and security;

    Planning, implementing, using and maintaining surface and upper air sounding observation networks at the level ofthe Romanian territory;

    Daily data feeding into the common database withresults from forecast model run coupled to modelsa t m o sp h e r i c a n d t r a n s po r t a n d d i f f u si o n o fatmospherically pollutants for 24-48 hours, at regionalscale;

    The National Meteorological Administration will cooperatewith Meteo-France on development of a 3D forecastingsystem for air pollution on urban scale, and will daily providein the common database the results of running the urban airpollution forecasting system, on deadlines commonly-agreed with partners, in order to be used in initiating thefeed-back chain.

    Periodically providing (daily data and monthly diagnosticindices) in the project common database of results fromrunning the trajectory forecast model at regional andurban scale;

    NMA will fed the common database with 3D monitoring

    results daily performed on atmospheric pollutants withLIDAR-DIAL, and with DOAS gas analysers;

    Building together with EPA-B of an extensive mobilemeteorological and air quality measuring network, anddaily updating the database with results obtained fromthese measurements;

    NMA will perform the common database integrationfrom various sources, in OpenGIS system in order toobtain an integrated system.     TOGETHER FOR A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENTThe Environmental Protection Agency - Bucharest (EPA-B) acts through all legal means for the protection andimprovement of the environmental state and life quality. This aim may be attained by taking into consideration andby applying at capital level all international conventions and agreements which Romania is an integrating part. Amajor part of objectives, programs and activity plans may be achieved and developed through European standards.EPA-B organises various activities with an instructive, formative and educational purpose, keeps the inhabitants,local public authorities and decentralized services of the central public authorities, well informed, regarding the stateand evolution of environment. Also, the published materials, and of course a tight cooperation with mass - mediahave the purpose of rendering sensitive the public opinion and its involvement in sustaining and taking all duemeasures concerning environmental protection, biological diversity and increasing the quality of life in areasaffected by pollution.EPA-B settles public consultations on environmental issues, analyses and takes into consideration the commentsmade by civil society for taking the best decision.Several problems are under the jurisdiction of the Agency, like:

Elaborareade asemenea reglement\ri presupune integrarea concluziilor rezultate n urma efectu\rii unor analize mono-criteriale,

    transferul acestor concluzii n palier multi-criterial, corelarea cu strategia de dezvoltare urban\ aprobat\ prin PlanulUrbanistic General al Municipiului Bucure[ti; de asemenea, acest demers presupune elaborarea mai multor variante de

    It is financed from budgetary allowances and out-budgetary incomes, within the limits of the competences given both bylaw, by Decisions of the General Bucharest City Council and Disposals of the General Mayor of Bucharest.

    The UMPC-B group of experts forms an interdisciplinary team, composed of architects, urban planners, environment,

    traffic and utilities engineers, sociologists, jurists and economists.

    . Thoseprojects are finalised by development regulations of the plots of the urban and metropolitan areas and territories, by trafficregulations, by development strategies and integrated policies on domains regarding the evolution of the urban areas and

    territories, the territories of the administrative sectors of Bucharest, the whole municipal territory and also the areas ofsupport and influence of the Capital. The final purpose of all these actions is the protection of the public interest and theachievement of the public utility objectives. Based on the prognosis, the UMPC-B experts can elaborate various urbandevelopment scenarios, in order to choose the optimum variant which best integrates the options of the different actorsinvolved in the process with the development strategy of Bucharest, based on the principles of sustainable development.

    From this matter, we can point out of Urban Regulations for the bordering on areas and utilisationcategories of the Municipal territory of Bucharest - Fiscal Zoning, in 2003 and in 2004. The elaboration of suchregulations presume the integration of conclusions obtained as a result of the accomplishment of mono-criterionanalysis, the transferring of those conclusions in a many-criterion bearing, the correlation with urban developmentestablished by the Master Plan of Bucharest, the simulation of much more variants of fiscal zoning, correlated withurban development policies considered being a priority at that moment. We mention that the environment state is animportant level of analysis.UMPC-B special is ts (P.U.Z.) which cover important surfaces of the town, for a reas ofstrategic importance for Romania Capital: the organisation of the traffics at the city level - the closure of the main trafficring in the South of Bucharest, main traffic penetrations in Bucharest with the connecting to the future arterial highways(Bucharest - Bra[ov, Bucharest - Constan]a), urban plan for the area which comprise the Northern Railway Station ofBucharest, old industrial areas placed in the Central Perimeter of the town (for example Panduri Area), vacant plots ofland with great surfaces (for example the area of V\c\re[ti Lake).UMPC-B, as a technical off icial of Bucharest Municipality, n of urban documentations,which are finalised by regulations, strategies and action plans for important areas of the city, of whose impact belongof national level: Master Plan of Bucure[ti 2000 Area, P.U.Z. Inner Centre of Bucharest.Also, UMPC-B , which are finalised with the establishment ofdevelopment strategies of medium and long delay, for territories which are going beyond the administrative limit ofBucharest. Thus, it is now in the proceeding of approval the complex study for the Metropolitan Area and UrbanAgglomeration of Bucharest. This project elaborates policies and regulations for the development of the connectionsand functional - administrative interactions among Bucharest and his influence and supporting territory. They arementioned various scenarios of development in the territory.

    UMPC-B has a specialised team formed by architects, urban planners, traffic, utilities and environment engineers,sociologists, jurists and economists. All this specialists form an interdisciplinary work team, able to take decisions about

    the urban development of Bucharest. Most cases of this te am are so students, so post-graduate of academically advancedstudies organized by prestigious universities from Romania or from abroad: Institute for Housing and Urban DevelopmentStudies - Rotterdam, The Netherlands, from Institute of Architecture and Planning "Ion Mincu" Bucharest (regionaldevelopment, urban management), Academy of Economic Studies, Bucharest (regional development).

    Facilitation of a sustainable urban mobility in Bucharest City - MODUR. UMPC-B is participating, like an associate, inthis project financed by the Education and Research Minister, together with prestigious academic institutions, like theInstitute of Architecture and Planning "Ion Mincu" Bucharest, the Polytechnic University of Bucharest. The project willcontinue till 2007.

    Autoritatea de S\n\tate Public\ a Municipiului Bucure[ti (ASP-B) [i desf\[oar\ activitatea n baza Legiinr.95/2006 si a Ord.MSP 880/2006. Structura organizatorica cuprinde: un director executiv, avnd n subordineservicii precum: runos, juridic, audit, informatica si biostatistica medicala, relatii cu publicul si comunicare;compartimentele de: inspectie sanitara de stat, coordonat de un inspector sanitar sef si serviciu programe desanatate, cu un coordonator de programe; un director executiv adjunct de sanatate publica care supravegheazacompartimentele: promovarea sanatatii, evaluarea factorilor de mediu, avizare-autorizare sanitara,supravegherea bolilor transmisibile, medicina scolara, supravegherea bolilor profesionale, depozitul de produseantiepidemice, compartimentul teritorial de sanatate publica si laboratoarele: radiatii, microbiologie, toxicologie,chimie; un director executiv adjunct medical avnd n subordine compartimentele de asistenta medicalaambulatorie de specialitate, prespitaliceasca si spitaliceasca; si un director executiv adjunct financiar contabil.

    ASP-B este un serviciu public deconcentrat al Ministerului Sanatatii Publice, care pune n aplicare politica siprogramele nationale de sanatate pe plan local, identifica probleme prioritare de sanatate publica siimplementeaza actiuni de sanatate publica. De asemenea organizeaza actiuni de prevenire a mbolnavirilor si depromovare a sanatatii, colecteaza si nregistreaza date privind sanatatea populatiei, elaboreaza studii asupraproblemelor de sanatate ale populatiei, coordoneaza activitate serviciilor de ambulanta a municipiului Bucuresti,organizeaza asistenta medicala in caz de calamitati, gestioneaza rezerva antiepidemica, colaboreaza cuautoritatile locale in aplicarea reglementarilor din domeniul sanatatii publice, organizeaza culegerea siprelucrarea informatiilor statistice medicale de la unitatile sanitare publice sau private, intocmeste rapoarteanuale privind starea de sanatate a comunitatii, coordoneaza implementarea activitatilor ce decurg din obligatiileasumate prin Tratatul de aderare a Romaniei la Uniunea Europeana, colecteaza si inregistreaza datele privind

    tipurile, cantitatea si modul de gestionare a deseurilor medicale, efectueaza la cererea unor persoane fizice saujuridice servicii de sanatate publica, de asemenea indeplineste atributii specifice structurilor organizatorice pedomenii de activitate. Inspectia sanitara de stat verifica conformitatea la normele igienico-sanitare a obiectivelorsocio-economice si culturale, unde se desfasoara activitati cu impact asupra sanatatii populatiei.

    The Public Health Authority of Bucharest (APH-B) acts under the Law nr.95/2006 and Ord. MPH 880/2006.The organised structure consists of: a chief executive under whose subordination are the following services like:runos, juridical, audit, medical data and biostatistics, public relations and communication; the departments ofstate sanitary inspection, coordinated by a chief sanitary inspector and the department of health programmes,under the supervision of a programme coordinator; a public health executive who supervises the followingdepartments: health promotion, assessment of environmental factors, anti-epidemics product supplies,

    territorial public health and the laboratories of: radiation, microbiology, toxicology, chemistry; a medicalexecutive who supervises the department of special ambulatory medical assistance, both outside and insidehospital facilities; and an executive of finances.

    APH-B is a decentralized public service of the Ministry of Public Health, with juridical status and which

    implements the policy and national health programmes at local level, identifies priority public health programmesand carries out public health activities. It also organises sickness prevention and health promotion actions, itcollects and registers data regarding the health of the population, it elaborates studies on health issuesconcerning the population, it coordinates the activity of the Bucharest ambulance services, it organizes thecollection and the processing of data, it organizes medical assistance in case of natural disasters, it manages

    the anti-epidemic supplies, it collaborates with local authorities in enacting public health regulations, it organizesthe collection and processing of statistic data from public or private facilities, it draws up annual reportsconcerning community health, it coordinates the enactment of activities which devolve from the obligations

    taken on through Romania's Treaty of Accession to EU, it collects and registers the data concerning the types,the quantity and handling of medical waste, it provides public health services upon request from physical orjuridical personas, and it also acts out different attributions specific of organized structures on fields of activity.The public health inspection verifies the compliance with hygienic-sanitary norms, of socio-economic andcultural objectives where activities with an impact upon health take place.
