Cetatea închide îhtre s l d u r i ­l e e l o aupraîaţă de mloă întindere, o f e r i n d îhsă p r l T l r i l o r o Imagine l m -perslonantă p r i n numeroasele t u r n u r i ele l n o l n t e l ( f l g . 1 ) .

Înălţată pe punctu l oe l m a i r i d i c a t a l c o l i n e i , b i s e r i c a se oompun* d i n t r - o navă dreptunghiulară, legată p r i n t r - u n a r c t r i u m f a l ou t raseu s e m i c i r c u l a r de un oor t r a p e n o i d a l , încheiat apre răsăr i t ou o abaldă s e m l c i r o ulară . L a e x t e r i o r o o r u l a r e două t i p u r i de c o n t r a f o r t u r i , o e l e I n i t i a l e sfnt so unde, 1er oele adoaate într -o fesă ulterioară sînt înalte J.** gate f h t r e e le p r i n a roe p e n t r u g u r i de păcură . Pe l a t u r a de aud b i s e r l o a dispune de t r e i in trăr i . Cea principală,a¬flată f h jumătatea de e s t , a r e un anoadrament de piatră d i n b l o c u r i s im -p le făţulte f i a f e sa te îh a r c s e m i c i r c u l a r , f n present t e n o u l t e . Aceet e¬lement romanic de arhitectură nu a foat t semnalat pînă acum, t r e o f n d n e ­observat d i n causa c o n t r a f o r t u r i l o r masive c a r e f l acoperă p a r t i a l 2 . C e ­l e l a l t e două intrări , secundare , a f la te s p r e oapătul de vest a l b i e e r i o i l ,

sînt r e z u l t a t u l unor Intervenţii t f r z i l . Una a fost p r a c t i c a t a p e n t r u a se a junge , cu a j u t o r u l unei s căr i do l e m n , l a t r i b u n e l e - tot de lemn - s i t u ­ate pe l a t u r i l e de n o r d , Test f i sud a le n a v e i . O altă i n t r a r e f n b i se r i că se află pe l a t u r a de n o r d a c o r u l u i , p r i n a a o r l s t l e . Lăcaşul este luminat de f e r e s t r e a f la te toate pe l a t u r a sa de e u d , toate f i i n d intervenţii t f r — z i i .

A c c e s u l în oetate ee înoo p r l n t r - o I n t r a r e plasată pe l a t u r a de s u d -est a s i d u l u i do incintă, unde panta c o l i n e i este m a l l ină . Ceea oe reprezintă nota de o r i g i n a l i t a t e a a ces te i cetăţi este c u l o a ­r u l oe înconjoară întreaga Incintă pe par t e a i n t e r l o a r ă ι aceeta constă d i n tronsoane de aidărle de d i f e r i t e l u n g i m i (3-5 m ) , înalte de c i r c a 1,50 m .plasate f h medie l a 2 m de a l d u l l n o l n t e l f i purtînd ua acoper i ş , c u panta de l a a l d u l de Incintă r p r e our tea inter ioară . Pent ru p r i m a dată e-a făout observaţia oă par t e a de răsăr i t a b l ­a e r i o i i ee compune d i n t r - u n oor t r a p e z o i d a l ş i o absidă semicirculară nedeoroşată , dat fhdu-ao aceasta împreună ou oole t r e i cap i to l e menţio­nate f h prima jumătate a eeo . a l Χ Π Ι - l e a 1 2 . H . F a b l n i a a t r a s de aseme­nea atenţia asupra necesităţi i unor oeroetăr i arheo log i ce p e n t r u s t a b i ­l i r e a p l a n u l u i i n i t i a l a l b i s e r i c i i , p recum ş i p e n t r u p r e c i z a r e a e tape i i ¬niţiale de construcţ ie 9 i a transformărilor s u f e r i t e de monument.

L a banft capitelul p r e a l n ­tă o a s t r a g a l t t . Ce le la l te douft căpiţele ou-bloo, de dimensiuni m a i mic i (44 χ 44 χ 30 cm) , se deosebesc de c e l d e s o r l s mal sun p r i n aceea oft au pe una d i n părţi , f h loo de t r e i a e m l c e r o u r l m i c i ( s o u t u r l ) , p a t r u s e m i ­c e r c u r i i d e n t i c e .

Rezultatele cerce tăr i l o r arheo log ico d i n b l oor l o t t ( f l g . 2 , 3 ) . t h a n i i 1970-1971 s -au desfăşurat c e r ce tăr i arheo log ico f n o o r , f h e a o r l s t l e f i f h jumătatea de n o r d a săl i i , c a r e au adus l n lumină urmele une i b l s e -r i c i - s a l ă mai νeon i . în c o r , fn secţiunea S . I , u l t e r i o r lărg i tă , s -au s u » p r i n s f ragmente le unei fundaţii oe a aparţinut une i abside ou t r a s e u se­m i c i r c u l a r , i a r f h nară în S . 9 a foat descoperi tă p o r n i r e a sidului de v e s t a l a c e s t u i e d i f i c i u . S -a constatat a e t f e l oă l a t u r i l e de n o r d f i de sud a le p r i m e i o o n s t r u o t i i s - au o o n s e r r a t f n pereţi i l a t e r a l i a l b i a e r l -c i i a c t u a l e , c a r e este de fapt r e z u l t a t u l unor modificări f l transformări sucoesive a l e e d i f i c i u l u i i n i t i a l . L a efeotuarea unor c e r ce tăr i do p a r e ­ment 1 5 s -a descoper i t îh spatele p l o l o r u l u l de n o r d f 1 de eud a l e r o u l u i t r i u m f a l decroşul n o r d i c f i sudio a l a b s i d e i , păstrat pe ambele păr t i p i ­n i l a o înălţime de c i r c a 2 m , prezentîhd o benă elmplă romanioă, r e a l i ­zat d i n piatră fătuită. în ceea oe prlTOfte o o l u t u r i l e e x t e r i o a r e ale a f t l i i a putut f i dezve l i t de sub un s t r a t g r o s de tencuială numai o e l de n o r d -est (îh s a c r i s t i e ) , r e a l i z a t de asemenea d i n b l o c u r i de p l a t r t t f i n i s a t e , c e l de sud-es t este aooper i t de un o o n t r a f o r t mea ly , adoaat în t r - o fasft t f r z i e .

Pe baza aces tor d e s o o p e r i r i a putut f l r e o o n e t l t u l t p lanul unei b i ­s e r i c i de d imens iun i r e l a t i v r e d u s e , oonutfnd d i n t r - o salft f i o abeldft ee-m l c i r o u l a r f t deoroşată . Lungimea totală a foet de 13 ,50 m , d i n oare l u n ­gimea săli i e r a de 9 ,80 m, f n t i m p oe lăţimea e l l a capătul de eet e r a da 8 m , i a r l a oe l veat io de numai 7 ,80 m . t n medie grosimea a l d u r i l o r a fos t de 0 ,75 m - 0 , 8 0 m . Ta lpa fundaţiei a ces te i b l s e r l o l preaonta o amenajare speaială t a fost real izată d i n piatră măruntă de o a r l e r ă , a ş e ­zată pe o latură, uşor înclinată f l legată ou m o r t a r . L a aainele urmă­t o a r e a l e fundaţiei f 1 a le elevaţiei e-a f o l o e l t piatră de oar l e ră de d i ­mens iuni m a i m a r i , legată ou m o r t a r 1 0 .

S t r a t l g r a f ia legată do aoest e d i f i c i u , precum f i r a p o r t u l aoostula cu unele amenajări u l t e r i o a r e s - a u putut mal amplu numai f η p r o f i l e l e pereţ i lor secţiunii S . Poate aooata meşteri i o o n n t r u o t o r i a u a ş ­t e r n u t un s t r a t p e n t r u nlTolaroa t e r e n u l u i d i n i n t e r i o r u l a b a l d e l , s t r a t compus d i n pămfnt cas tan iu desobis şl g ranu le de m o r t a r , a p o i au f n -t i n r un s t r a t subţire un i f o rm de l u t ga lben , aooata f i i n d des t inat să joace p r o b a b i l r o l u l une i pode le . N u a f o s t surprinsă n i c i o urmă de pardoseală o a r e să poată f l atribuită p r i m e i faso de oonntruoţie a b i s e r l o l i .

Pe p e r e t e l e de n o r d a l să l i i , l a 4 m de a r c u l t r i u m f a l , s-a desoope-r i t ou p r i l e j u l unor c e r c e t ă r i de parement o nişă UTfhd la par t e a s u p e r i -oară un a r e s e m i c i r c u l a r (lungime 1,80 m , înălţime maximă 1,40 m) ( f l g . 5 ) .

Reaurnind ce le expuse pfnă a l o i , putem presupune oă t h p r i m a etapă de oonstruot l e a f o s t r l d l o a t un lăcaş do d imens iuni m i c i , c u următoarele c a r a c t e r i s t i c i ι o sală simplă tăvănltă, ou absidă semlolroulară d e o r o ş a -t ă , p r o b a b i l acoper i tă ou o semioalotă j pe p a r t e a sudioă avea o i n t r a r e , i a r t h pere te l e n o r d i c e r a amenajată o n i şă , ambele ou arc s e m i o i r o u l a r . S i n g u r u l element de deoor a l a c e s t u i e d i f i c i u modest t r e b u i e să f l f o s t p i a t r a făt uită fo los i tă l a ancadramentul Intrării , l a e o l t u r l l e e x t e r i o a r e a l e aăl i i , l a deoroşul abs ide i ) n u este exolus oa şl f e r e s t r e l e să f l avut ancadramente d in piatră pre lucrată . F o a r t e p r o b a b i l b i s e r l o a a f os t atît f h i n t e r i o r , o f t ş l f h e x t e r i o r tenoultă ş i văruită. De asemenea, c o n s i d e ­răm oă de l a aoeastă oonstruot le Iniţială p r o v i n e p i a t r a lucrată , r e f o l o -altă l a nişa oe ae află f n prezent f h pere te l e de aud a l c o r u l u i , f n ceea oe pr iveşte fhsă oele t r e i căpiţele sfhtem de părere oă nu fş i avoau l o ­cul f n acest e d i f i c i u , o i p r o v i n de l a o etapă ulterioară de transformări .

Aceste c a r a c t e r i s t i c i de p l a n ş i elevaţie corespund s t i l u l u i r o m a ­n i c p i încadrează ae t f e l acest e d i f i c i u ( o cape lă , datorită d i m e n s i u n i l o r sa le reduse ) f h r J n d u l c e l o r mal v e o h i construoţl i medievale d i n T r a n -a i l v a n l a . O primă mod i f i care a p l a n u l u i iniţial a l b i s e r i c i i o constatăm l a p a r ­tea ee t i că t abalda semloiroulnră a f o s t demolată ş l înlocuită cu un c o r l e g a t d i r e c t de o absidă semiolroulară , înconjurat l a e x t e r i o r cu c o n t r a ­f o r t u r i . A foat s u r p r i n s s t r a t u l de demolare a l abs ide i c a r e tăia s t r a t u l de lu t ş i s t r a t u l de n i v e l a r e d in veohea abaldă. P e n t r u o pardoseală de c arămiei t r i u n g h i u l a r e ou l a t u r a de 20 c m , groase de 3 -4 cm,a foat f o l o s i t însă oa supor t ua o l t e t r a t de m o r * t a r , mai f i n d i n punot de vedere a l oomposlţlel sale deoft · o e l f o l o s i t l n . e g a l i s a r e . Aoeastă pardoseală a foat surprinsă numai pe l a t u r a de aud, I a r pe l a t u r a de n o r d a -a descoper i t pe nuc i porţiuni numai p a t u l de m o r -t a r - a u p o r t ou urmele de oărămini t r i u n g h i u l a r e Imprimate f n acesta ( f l g . 2 / Π ) .

D i n aoeastă incintă a -au păstrat, în e levaţ ie , unele porţiuni , înglobate în i n c i n t a actuală ι porţiunea de n o r d - e s t , do sud-est ş l s u d - v e s t . I n c i n ­t a a avut un t r a s e u o v a l , i a r acolo unde înolinatia t e r e n u l u i o c e r e a , a - n i amenajat f l c o n t r a f o r t u r i , îh spec ia l în sona de r ă s ă r i t . Şanţul de f u n ­d a r e (în punctele unde e-a c e r c e t a t ) a străbătut s t r a t u r i de pămfnt s t e ­r i l d i n punct de vedere a r h e o l o g i e , f i i n d adîholt f n pămfht u l v i u . Z i d ă r i a a f o s t real izată d i n piatră de r î u , legată cu m o r t a r d u r . ' puterea centrală , a j u c a t ş l ea un r o l d e s t u l de a c t i v . P r i m u l episcop ca ­t o l i c a l Transilvaniei , împreună cu c e l de l a Cenad,apare menţionat f h a -n u l 1111 . a n t e r i o r ohlar. instituţiilor a d m i n i s t r a t i v e , a c o m i t a t e l o r , oare a p a r documentar ab ia în a doua jumătate a seo . a l X n - l e a 5 6 , Căci în în­temeierea de lăoaşe de o u l t , ce t r e b u i a u sfinţite de ep ieoople , b iser i ca , e r a d i r e c t Interesată, f i i n d bene f i c ia ra unor încasări de d ă r i . O construoţle de acest f e l , de p l a n d r e p t u n g h i u l a r ou absidă eemiciroulară alungită, a fost descope­r i tă l a Moreşt i -Cit fo lău,a căre i fundaţie însă a d i s t r u s morminte mal v e o h l , d i n t r - u n o i m i t l r a căru i dată do început a fost stabilită îh vremea r e g e l u i B e l n Π (1131 -1141 ) 5 8 .

G r u p u l do g răn i cer i s e cu i au staţionat d i n o r d i n u l regalităţii îh zo­na looalităţl i V i s c r i p r o b a b i l 40 -50 a n i . Tn ceea ce priveşte însă mormfn-

P a r t e a vest ică a v i i t o r u l u i scaun Rupea, d i n c a r e va faoe par te f 1 V l s c r l , a fost ocupată de saş i fh etapa a I U - a -după p e r l o d l z a r e a o o l o n i -zăr i l saş i l or f n T r a n s i l v a n i a , stabilită de K a r l - K u r t K l e i n - d e c i spre afîrşitul sec . a l ΧΠ- lea , cu aşa numite „nachgeyaanische Gruppen" . Drumul de c irculaţ ie între T i r na va M a r e - O l t (pe c a r e se află looaUtătile Sasch l z , F i ş e r ) însă va rămîne ocupat de se cu i încă mai bine de 100 de a n i , păstrîndu-şl un r o l s t rateg lo ş l după mutarea graniţei pe O l t , l o c a ­lităţile menţionate f i i n d oo lonizate cu saş i ab ia îh a doua jumătate a seo. a l X i n - l e a ° 2 . Deşi satele V i s c r i ş l Drăuşeni v o r faoo p a r t e ambele d i n scaunul Rupea, d i n punct de vedere a l organizări i b i ser i ceş t i Visări , va f i c u p r i n s în o a p l t l u l de K o s d , f o rmat fhcă la afîrşitul sec . e l XH-km în t imp ce Drăuşeni va i n t r a f h c a p l t l u l de K l o d , u l t e r i o r f o r m a t . C o l o n i ­zarea săsească în etape d i f e r i t e , îh funcţie de mutarea g r u p u r i l o r de s e ­c u i , este evidentă.

Coloniştii saşi sosiţ i l a V i s c r i , p r o b a b i l f n t r e a n i i 1170-1180, v o r a f la a i c i o capelă de c i m i t i r , văruită f h a l b , de l a oare f o a r t e p r o b a b i l va p r o v e n i ş l numele s a t u l u i , aşa cum am menţionat mai nus .

Cunoscut este f a p t u l că saşi i de pe pămîntul l i b e r r e g a l , f h t r - o e¬tapă imediat ulterioară aşezăr i i l o r , au c o n s t r u i t e d i f i c i i do c u l t c o r e s ­punzătoare necesităţi lor ş l pretenţii lor l o r s o c i a l e .
