Introducere Introduction
Procesul dezvoltării auzului
muzical pentru o carieră artistică
este preocuparea fundamentală a
pedagogiei muzicale în general, şi
a disciplinei Teorie-Solfegiu-
Dictat în special.
Tradiţia şcolii muzicale
româneşti de mai mult de 100 de
ani, formată prin preluarea
concepţiei şi terminologiei vest
europene (franceză-italiană în
principal, pe de o parte, şi austro-
germană, pe de altă parte) s-a axat
exclusiv pe formarea auzului
aservit muzicii tonal-funcţionale
(barocă, clasică şi romantică),
închizând în bună măsură
evoluţia către muzicile secolului
XX axate pe alte principii
intonaţionale decât cea tonal-
funcţională.
Dar în zilele noastre, se
resimte tot mai acut această
rămânere în urmă, pe măsură ce
în secolul XXI accentul începe să
se mute pe alte muzici, adică cele
neglijate în secolul XX, şi mai ales
pe noile muzici cu perspective
electronice.
For an artistic career the
development of ear training is the
essential goal of music pedagogy
in general and of the Theory-
Solfege-Dictation subject in
particular.
The tradition of the Romanian
music school is older than 100
years and was formed by
absorbing the concept and
terminology of Western European
music (French, Italian, on the one
side and Austro-German on the
other side), focusing exclusively
on a type of training enslaved by
the tonal music (baroque, classical
and romantic), almost closing its
evolution towards the twentieth
century music rthat focused on
other principles than the tonal-
functional intonation had utilized.
Nowadays however, this
lag is felt more acutely, as in the
twenty-first century the accent
began to move onto other music,
especially onto the new electronic
musical perspective.
8
Iată de ce se pune problema
unei noi atitudini didactice, prin
care să se statueze o nouă
modalitate de educaţie a auzului,
bazată pe un proces de
structurare ce-l va face adecvat
oricărei muzici actuale şi viitoare.
Acest proces va fi încadrat
într-un nou sistem, conceput pe
căile naturale ale percepţiei şi
configurării conştiente muzicale.
This is why we are talking
about a new didactical approach,
through which to establish a new
way of ear training education
based on a structuring process
that will make it suitable to any
current and future music.
This process will be placed
in a new system, designed
according to the natural ways of
perception and conscious musical
configuration.

TEMA I
Perceperea
SUNETULUI muzical
pe toată întinderea
ambitusului vocal-
instrumental
THEME I
The perception of
musical SOUND over
the whole vocal and
instrumental range
Perceperea sunetului
muzical din ambitusul vocal-
instrumental este prima condiţie a
celui care se iniţiază în domeniul
muzical, fie şi numai pentru
necesităţi de amator.
Familiarizarea cu sunetele
muzicale pe toate registrele
măreşte „orizontul” auditiv şi
declanşează interesul pentru
studiul muzicii. Dacă această
familiarizare include şi atenţia la
timbruri, aceasta se va amplifica
prin cuplarea senzitivă a doi
parametrii, şi va stimula
concentrarea afectiv-intelectuală.
Prin însuşi universul sonor
(muzical) dezvăluit de ambitusul
şi raporturile sonore, impactul
emoţional va contribui decisiv la
aderarea şi implicarea în studiul
muzicii.
Pentru ca procesul însuşirii
The perception of musical
sound in the vocal and
instrumental range is the first
condition for those who are
beginners in music, even if we are
speaking only about amateur
needs. By learning the music
sounds in all registers, the
auditory “horizon” is increased
and the interest in studying music
is triggered. If this familiarity also
includes the attention for timbres,
it will increase by coupling two
sensitive parameters and will
stimulate the affective and
intellectual concentration.
Through the sound (musical)
universe itself, revealed by the
range and the sound relations, the
emotional impact will decisively
contribute to the adherence to and
the involvement in the musical
study.
In order to gradually learn

acestui ambitus să fie gradat, el va
avea 3 etape.
this range, the process will have 3
stages.
a 2-a.
Stage I will include the
most familiar area in all the music
genres, the one placed in the
sonorous center of the 1st octave,
plus another fourth in the grave
register and a third in the acute,
corresponding to the G clef area,
namely G from the minor octave
and E from the 2nd octave.
Etapa a II-a se va extinde cu
încă o octavă în grav (sol octava
mare) şi o octavă în acut (mi
octava a 3-a).
Stage II will extend by
another octave in the grave
register (G in the major octave)
and one octave in the acute
register (E in the 3rd octave).
Etapa a III-a va îngloba
sunetele tuturor celorlalte
registre, adică restul sunetelor din
octava mare, plus octava contra şi
octava subcontra, iar în acut,
Stage III will include the
sounds of all the other registers,
namely the rest of the sounds in
the major octave, plus the
contraoctave and the sub-contra

octave, and for the acute the
sounds of the 3rd, 4th and 5th
octaves.
Modul de lucru al
profesorului cu elevii pentru
conştientizarea sunetelor, va
implica reproducerea vocală.
Profesorul cântă (mai bine zis,
produce sunetul) cu un
instrument şi cere subiecţilor (la
început împreună, iar apoi
individual) să cânte cu vocea
sunetul respectiv. Exerciţiul
continuă astfel până când subiecţii
ajung să răspundă cu uşurinţă
solicitării auditive a sunetelor.
Din acest mod de lucru
rezultă raţiunea eşalonării
activităţii pe cele trei etape:
- Etapa I – zona centrală este
cea mai accesibilă auzului, fiind
favorizată de mediul ambiant
muzical (muzica de toate
genurile), şi astfel uşor de receptat
şi intonat. Dacă subiecţii sunt
copii, zona cuprinde ambitusul
vocii lor, iar daca sunt adulţi (e
vorba de bărbaţi), aceştia, prin
The educator will work with the
students in order to achieve
conscious perception of the
sounds by involving the vocal
reproduction. The music educator
plays (or rather, produces the
sound) with an instrument and
asks the subjects (at first together
and then individually) to sing the
respective sound. The exercise
will continue until the subjects
come to respond easily to the
request.
Applying this kind of action
provides the reason for dividing
the work in three stages:
Stage I - the central area is
the most accessible to hearing,
benefiting from the environment
(music of all genres) and thus
being easily perceived and sung.
If the subjects are children, the
area includes the range of their
voices, and if they are adults
(men), they will, through their
12
experienţa audiţiei şi cântării
realizează cu uşurinţă
transpoziţia.
În etapa I, profesorul
trebuie să insiste mult până se
asigură un cvasi-automatism al
receptării şi redării, necesar
abordării fazelor ulterioare.
- Etapa a II-a presupune
deja transpoziţia de octave pentru
a reproduce cu vocea sunetul
propus în zonele grave sau acute.
Profesorul trebuie să incite elevii
prin comparaţia noilor sunete cu
cele din octavele centrale,
obţinând astfel concentrarea
pentru fixarea auditivă a lor, apoi
efortul transpoziţiei, şi în final,
intonarea lor.
- Etapa a III-a pune mari
probleme de reperare a sunetului
care sună „tulbure” în octavele
grave şi ascuţit în octavele supra-
acute. Jocul timbrelor însă, adesea
fascinant (în special în acut),
poate constitui marea încântare
care să impulsioneze interesul.
Pentru reproducerea cu
vocea se poate folosi vocala a, sau
silabele la, ta, na etc. Redarea
sunetului se poate face şi prin
fluierat.
listening and singing experience,
easily accomplish the
transposition.
In stage I, the educator
should insist more to ensure a
quasi-automaticity of reception
and rendition that is necessary for
addressing the subsequent stages.
- Stage II has already
assumed the octave transposition
to replicate by voice the sound
proposed in the grave or acute
areas. The educator should
encourage students by comparing
new sounds with the ones in the
central octaves, thus obtaining the
concentration necessary for their
auditory memorization, then the
effort of transposition and
eventually their intonation.
- Stage III brings forward
important problems in tracking
the sound that sounds “dim” in
the grave octaves and sharp in the
over-acute octaves. The game of
timbres however is often
fascinating (especially in the acute
register) and can become the huge
delight that will spur interest.
For voice reproduction one
can use the vowel a or the
syllables la, ta, na, etc. The sound
can also be rendered by whistling.

Etapa I – profesorul emite
câte un sunet, elevii receptează,
apoi îl reproduc vocal (cu vocala
a, sau silaba la).
Sunetul emis trebuie să sune
2-4 secunde, urmat de o pauză de
1-3 secunde pentru procesarea lui
psihică. Dacă elevul are probleme
şi nu reuşeşte, sunetul poate fi
repetat.
Stage I – the educator emits
one sound at a time, the students
receive it, then reproduce it
vocally (with vowel a, or syllable
la).
The emitted sound must last
for 2-4 seconds, followed by a 1-3
second pause necessary for its
psychological processing. If the
student has problems and is
unsuccessful, the sound may be
repeated.

TEMA a II-a
Perceperea şi
reproducerea
intervalelor melodice
cu sunete naturale
THEME II
The perception and
reproduction of
melodic intervals with
natural sounds
Însuşirea auditivă a
intervalelor (melodice şi apoi
armonice) este faza cea mai
intensă a procesului de percepere
şi reproducere a lor, care necesită
multă răbdare din partea
profesorului, şi îndelungat efort
din partea elevilor, fiind etapa
decisivă pentru parcurgerea
stadiilor următoare, acorduri şi
acorduri cluster, care vor implica
2-3-4 intervale suprapuse.
Însuşirea intervalelor va necesita
o atenţie diferenţiată şi pe fiecare
individ, pentru a depista chiar
unele deficienţe la anumiţi
subiecţi, sau moduri particulare
de recepţie, care trebuie încurajate
şi/sau corectate.
The auditory acquisition of
the (melodic and then harmonic)
intervals is the most intense stage
of the process of their receiving
and reproducing, which requires
a large amount o patience on the
educator’s side, and a sustained
effort on the students’ side, being
the decisive stage for the
advancement into the next stages,
namely clusters and cluster
chords, which will involve 2-3-4
overlapped intervals. The
learning of these intervals will
necessitate differentiated
attention focused on each
individual in order to identify
even certain deficiencies with
some of the subjects, or particular
ways of reception, which must be
encouraged and/or corrected.
23
Pentru însuşirea
intervalelor, acestea vor fi
repartizate astfel:
II. 1. octava şi cvinta
perfectă;
II. 2. terţa mare şi mică şi
cvarta perfectă;
II. 3. sexta mare şi mică;
II. 4. secunda mare şi mică;
II. 5. septima mare şi mică;
II. 6. cvarta mărită = cvinta
micşorată.
Studiul pentru însuşirea
intervalelor se va face (în
principal) pe zona de centru a
ambitusului muzical, dar în
procesul exerciţiilor de audiţie şi
redare liberă trebuie să fie incluse
adesea şi octavele limitrofe ale
zonei centrale şi chiar şi din cele
extreme.
In order to acquire the
knowledge of these intervals, they
will be distributed as follows:
II. 1. the perfect octave and
the perfect fifth;
II. 2. the major-minor third
and the perfect fourth;
II. 3. the major-minor sixth;
II. 4. the major and the
minor second;
II. 5. the major-minor
seventh;
II. 6. the augmented fourth -
the diminished fifth.
The study required for the
learning of the intervals will be
done (mainly) within the central
zone of the musical range, but
during the exercises of listening
and free reproduction, one must
often include the octaves
contiguous to the central zone
and even some of the extreme
ones.
24
Pagină profesor Educator’s page
II. 1. – Octava şi cvinta
perfectă
II. 1. – The perfect octave
and fifth
Sunt două intervale care
crează multe probleme
începătorilor, care dacă nu se
concentrează, nu vor distinge
diferenţele între sunete, ci le vor
contopi în unison. Deficienţa
trebuie remediată, căci altfel
rămâne motiv de neclaritate în
însuşirea armonică a lor.
Modul de lucru:
a) Profesorul emite
intervalul şi solicită
subiecţilor să-l reproducă,
mai întâi în grup şi apoi
individual.
Exerciţiu 1 – octava
These are two intervals
which cause a lot of problems to
beginners, who, unless they
concentrate, will not distinguish
the differences between sounds
and will blend them in unison.
Unless this deficiency is
remedied, it remains a reason of
non-clarity in the learning of their
harmonic aspects.
Procedure:
a) The educator emits the
interval and requires the
subjects to reproduce it, first
as a group and then
individually.
Exercise 1 – the octave
Exerciţiul 2 – cvinta Exercise 2 – the fifth
25
Exerciţiul 3 – combinaţiile
intervalelor de octavă şi cvintă
Exercise 3 – the
combinations of the octave and
fifth intervals
b) Profesorul emite
intervalul, elevul îl reproduce,
apoi profesorul îi oferă nota de
bază sau cea de vârf, cerând
elevului să spună cele două note
ale intervalului.
b) The educator emits the
interval, the student reproduces
it, then the educator offers the
basis note or the peak note, asking
the student to name the two notes
of the interval.
c) Profesorul oferă (pentru
fiecare interval) sunetul la, iar
elevul „caută” auditiv şi numeşte
ambele note ale intervalului.
c) The educator offers (for
each interval) the sound A, and
the student “searches” with the
ear and names the two notes of
the interval.

II. 2. The major-minor
third and the perfect
fourth
a. Terţa mare – mică
Problema diferenţierii
auditive conştiente între terţele
mari şi mici (problemă prezentă şi
în cazul sextei, secundei şi
septimei) rămâne să se rezolve
parţial în modulul II şi total în
faza însuşirii trisonului major şi
minor, unde terţa are rol decisiv
pentru caracterul acestora. Totuşi,
profesorul încă din această etapă
trebuie să insiste (comparativ)
asupra diferenţei de sonoritate a
terţelor mari naturale, de terţele
mici naturale.
Profesorul emite intervalul,
elevii îl reproduc (în grup sau
individual) apoi apreciază felul
intervalului.
a. The major-minor third
The problem of conscious
auditory differentiation between
major and minor thirds (a
problem also encountered in the
case of the sixth, the second and
the seventh) will be partially
solved in module II and totally in
the stage of learning the major
and the minor triad, where the
third has a decisive role for their
character. However, already in
this stage the educator must insist
(comparatively) on the difference
in sonority between the natural
major thirds and the natural
minor thirds. The educator emits
the interval, the students
reproduce it (in group or
individually), then appreciate the
type of the interval.
28
Exerciţiul 1 Exercise 1
Profesorul cântă intervalul,
elevii îl intonează şi apreciază
mărimea lui, apoi profesorul le
oferă un reper (fie una din notele
intervalului, fie sunetul la) şi
solicită notele intervalului.
The educator sings the
interval, the students intone it and
appreciate its length, then the
educator offers a reference point
(either one of the interval’s notes,
or the sound A) and asks about
the interval’s notes.

Intervalele de sextă (mare –
mică) sunt cele mai greu de
sesizat (auditiv) şi fixate în
memorie, datorită faptului că
aceste intervale nu au pregnanţă
şi sunt greu de individualizat. Ele
The intervals of the (major-
minor) sixth are the most difficult
to grasp (by the ear) and
memorize, due to the fact that
these intervals are not
conspicuous and are hard to
individualize. They become
obvious only when placed in the
opening of the melody or in the
melodic (romantic) cadences. As
with thirds, sixths are also to be
learned gradually, in an evolution
from the problems of one module

de sunete fără a fi percepute ca
intervale individualizate. De
aceea profesorul trebuie să
trezească atenţia asupra entităţii
lor ca intervale independente,
prin detaşarea lor în cadrul
lanţului scalar.
Exerciţiul 1 – profesorul
atrage atenţia elevilor la diferenţa
între cele două secunde prin
alternarea lor în ambele sensuri
(ascendent – descendent).
Fenomenul este extrem de dificil
pentru începători căci poate apare
repede oboseala psihică. De aceea
în procesul studiului trebuie
făcute permanent mici pauze
pentru recuperarea psihică.
Aceste pauze pot fi „umplute” cu
cântarea unor melodii diatonice
The (major, minor) second
intervals will reveal their
powerful incisive (dissonant)
character in the harmonic stage.
Because in the stage of their
harmonic learning (in module I),
due to their succession-based
fluency (mode, scale), they
become “globalized” as a string of
sounds without being perceived
as individualized intervals. This is
why the educator must draw
attention onto their entity as
independent intervals, by
detaching them within the scale
chain.
Exercise 1 – the educator
draws the students’ attention onto
the difference between the two
seconds by alternating them in
both directions (ascending -
descending). The phenomenon is
extremely difficult for beginners,
as mental fatigue can step in
quickly. For this reason, frequent
small pauses need to be made for
mental repose. These small
pauses can be “filled” with
singing pleasurable diatonic

trebuie corectaţi insistent pentru a
nu se instala neglijenţa în
intonare.
melodies. The students will be
permanently asked to sing, but
they must be insistently corrected
so as to avoid negligent
intonation.
Exerciţiul 2 – elevii vor
cânta fiecare interval şi li se va
cere să facă analiza cu atenţie
pentru a reuşi să discearnă
diferenţa de caracter între cele
două secunde în succesiune
melodică cu sunetele naturale.
Profesorul va da repere (sunetul
la) şi elevii vor găsi notele
intervalului.
Exercise 2 – the students
will sing every interval and they
will be asked to perform a careful
analysis in order to manage to
discern the difference in character
between the two seconds in a
melodic succession with natural
sounds. The educator will offer
guide marks (the sound A) and
the students will find the notes of
the interval.

II. 5. – The major – minor

Intervalul de septimă mică
şi mare se impune prin
sentimentul de înfricoşare pe care
îl produce, datorită aparentei
dificultăţi insurmontabile prin
mărimea intervalului şi a
disonanţei lui, numit în vechile
tratate de teorie „interval
nemelodic”. Dar după primul
moment de aparentă „paralizie”
elevii vor constata că
„personalitatea” intervalului de
septimă, atât cea mică precum şi
cea mare, devine agreabilă şi
accesibilă.
Exerciţiul 1 – audiţia şi
intonarea comparativă a celor
două forme de septimă de către
elevi (cântate de profesor la
instrument).
The major and minor
seventh interval imposes itself by
the frightening sensation it
produces through its apparently
insurmountable difficulty due to
the size of the interval and its
dissonance, because of which it
was called “non-melodic interval”
in older theory treatises.
Nevertheless, after the first
moment of “apparent” paralysis,
the students will notice that the
“personality” of the seventh
interval (both the major and the
minor) becomes agreeable and
accessible.
Exercise 1 – the comparative
hearing and intonation of the two
types of seventh by the students
(played by the educator).

II. 6. – Augmented fourth –

În cadrul sistemului
diatonic format din sunetele
naturale, în orice scară, din orice
cultură muzicală (orală sau cultă),
cvarta mărită se diferenţiază
categoric de cvinta micşorată (şi
doar în sistemul temperat ele sunt
echivalente având 6 semitonuri).
Detaşate de contextul melodic, ele
devin cele mai dificile intervale de
determinat auditiv şi de intonat,
în special cvarta mărită (4+).
Cvinta micşorată (5-) este relativ
mai accesibilă (de perceput şi de
intonat) în special în sistemul
tonal-funcţional, datorită
caracterului provenit din cele
două sensibile convergente.
Within the diatonic system
made up of the natural sounds, in
any scale, of any (oral or art)
music culture, the augmented
fourth is categorically
differentiated from the
diminished fifth (they are
equivalent only in the tempered
system, having 6 semitones).
Detached from the melodic
context, they become the most
difficult to determine by the ear
and intone, particularly the
augmented fourth (4+). The
diminished fifth (5-) is relatively
more accessible (to perceive and

character originating in the two
convergent leading-tones.

TEMA a III-a
Acordurile de 3 sunete
(TRISONURILE)
THEME III
3-sound chords
(TRIADS)
Acordurile de trei sunete
(trisonurile) reprezintă conţinutul
propriu-zis al creaţiei muzicale
culte începând cu secolul al XIV-
lea şi până în secolul XX (XIV-XVI
Renaştere; XVII-XIX Baroc,
Clasicism, Romantism).
Deşi s-ar crede că, trăind
permanent în ambianţa armonică,
orice muzician aude şi stăpâneşte
toată structura acordică conţinută
de operele muzicale, adevărul
este dezamăgitor. Majoritatea
absolvenţilor de şcoli, licee şi
universităţi de muzică nu „ştiu”
ce aud, ci merg pe fluxul sonor la
fel ca omul de rând. Cultura
conştientă, mai ales auditivă, a
armoniei, este o lipsă
considerabilă a educaţiei muzicale
din zilele noastre. Şi această lipsă
este şi mai acută în raport cu
evoluţia acestei armonii în secolul
XX, o adevărată explozie sonoră
pe care însă pedagogia muzicală a
ignorat-o şi a marginalizat-o, dar
care în zilele noastre începe să se
Three-sound chords (triads)
are the actual content of art music
creation beginning with the 14th
century to the 20th (14th-16th
Renaissance; 17th-19th Baroque,
Classicism, Romanticism).
Even though one might
believe that, since they live in a
harmonic environment all the
time, any musician will hear and
master the entire chord structure
of musical works, the truth is
disappointing. Most graduates of
music schools, high-schools and
universities do not “know” what
they hear, so that they follow the
same sound flow as any layman.
The conscious, particularly
auditory, culture of music
harmony is a major flaw of
contemporary music education.
And this flaw is sharper in
relationship to the development
of this harmony in the 20th
century - a real explosion of
sounds that music pedagogy has

impună şi noile generaţii de
muzicieni trebuie să o asimileze.
Aşadar, conceperea unei
modalităţi metodice de formare a
unei culturi auditive şi o practică
didactică responsabilă de
structurarea conştientă a acestei
culturi este iminentă.
Organizarea însuşirii
problematicii acordurilor
(trisonurilor) în cadrul Modulului
I se va realiza pe două paliere:
1. Perceperea şi intonarea
melodică a celor patru acorduri:
major (M), minor (m), micşorat (-)
şi mărit (+) în stare directă şi
poziţie strânsă.
2. Perceperea şi
recunoaşterea armonică a
acordurilor major (M), minor (m),
micşorat (-) şi mărit (+), în stare
directă şi poziţie strânsă.
Abordarea acordului de trei
sunete cu începătorii în studiul
muzicii reprezintă etapa cea mai
importantă şi decisivă pentru
viitoarea evoluţie în formarea
auzului de muzician, întrucât
muzica acordică înseamnă 700 de
ani de creaţie cultă, cuprinzând
perioada de 300 de ani a
Renaşterii (secolele XIV-XVI) şi
ignored and marginalized, which
nevertheless begins to gain
ground nowadays, so that the
new generations of musicians
must assimilate it.
Thus, conceiving a new
pedagogy that will serve to shape
an ear-training culture and
responsible pedagogical practices
that will take responsibility for
structuring this culture is
imminent.
Organizing the issue of
chord (triad) learning within
Module I is two be accomplished
on two levels:
1. The melodic perception
and intonation of the four chords:
major (M), minor (m), diminished

close position.
2. Perception and harmonic
recognition of chords: major (M),
minor (m), diminished (-), and
augmented (+) in root and close

Approaching the three
sound chord by beginner students
represents the most important
and decisive stage for the future
development in shaping a
musician’s hearing, because chord

apoi cea a Barocului,
Clasicismului şi Romantismului
(secolele XVII-XX), mai întâi în
Europa, apoi din întreaga lume.
Complexitatea armonică, mai ales
cea din secolul XIX presupune
eforturi îndelungate pentru a fi
însuşită auditiv, şi nu numai
tehnic-teoretic prin lucrul cu
acordurile şi înlănţuirea lor. Se
poate afirma în zilele noastre că
90% din muzicieni nu percep
conştient auditiv procesul
succesiunii acordurilor, nici chiar
la nivelul armoniei diatonice.
Faptul se datorează modului
defectuos al educaţiei auditive în
şcoală, prin neglijarea culturii
armonice a auzului muzical
conştient, la disciplina Teorie-
solfegiu-dictat.
Iată de ce momentul de
început al formării auzului
armonic reprezintă o mare
responsabilitate pentru profesor şi
o angajare la fel de responsabilă a
elevilor, care trebuie să devină
conştienţi de importanţa
dezvoltării auzului vertical.
Modulul I se va structura pe
două direcţii:
1. Perceperea şi intonarea
melodică a acordurilor formate
din sunete naturale, în stare
directă şi poziţie strânsă.
then that of the Baroque,
Classicism and Romanticism (18th-
20th centuries), first in Europe,
then in the whole world.
Harmonic complexity,
particularly that of the 19th
century, requires sustained efforts
in order to be learned by the ear,
and not only technically and
theoretically by working with
chords and their series. We can
nowadays assert that 90% of the
musicians do not consciously
perceive by the ear the process of
chord succession, not even in
terms of diatonic harmony, owing
to the flawed education of
auditory education in school,
where the harmonic culture of the
conscious musical hearing is
neglected.
This is why the initial
moment of shaping the harmonic
hearing represents a great
responsibility for music educators
and an equally responsible
engagement on the students’ part,
who must become aware of the
importance of developing their
vertical hearing.
Module I will be structured
according to two directions:
1. Perception and melodic
intonation of chords made up of
natural sounds, in root and close
position.
74
2. Perceperea armonică a
acordurilor formate din sunete
naturale, în stare directă şi poziţie

TEMA a IV-a
Formaţiuni sonore –
cluster
THEME IV
Sound formations –
cluster
Creaţia muzicală cultă din
secolul XX şi în special cea din a
doua jumătate a secolului,
depăşind construcţia de trison
(acorduri din terţe suprapuse)
evoluează spre o totală
liberalizare a suprapunerilor
verticale de sunete, încât orice
interval are tratare egală în
structurarea unui conglomerat
sonor. La aceasta se adaugă
libertatea ca pe verticală să se
suprapună orice număr de sunete.
Termenul pe care
muzicologia actuală l-a adoptat
este cel de cluster (ciorchine), care
tinde să devină universal
acceptat. Dar acest tip de
verticalitate care, momentan, pare
a fi (prin aleatorismul său) un gen
de libertate nelimitată, se cere
clarificată şi ordonată conform
limitelor „obiectelor” sonore
(sunete), care în fapt sunt destul
Art music works of the 20th
century, particularly those of the
second half of the century,
surpassed the triad construction
(chords made up of overlapped
thirds) and developed towards a
total liberalization of vertical
sound overlaps, so that any
interval is treated equally in the
structuring of a sound
conglomerate, accompanied by
the liberty of vertically
overlapping any number of
sounds.
The term adopted by
contemporary musicology is
cluster, which tends to become
universally accepted. However,
this type of verticality which, for
the time being (due to its
aleatoricism) seems to be a kind of
unlimited liberty, requires
clarification and ordering
according to the limits of
sonorous “objects” (sounds),

de limitate prin natura
„îngrădită” a senzaţiilor auditive
important îl are însă intervalul de
secundă. În continuare clusterele
se dezvoltă prin multiplicarea pe
verticală a sunetelor.
Modulul I, al începătorilor,
îşi va restrânge studiul la
clusterele de trei sunete naturale.
which are in fact quite limited by
the “confined” nature of people’s
natural auditory capacities.
By this clarification and
ordering clusters can be perceived
consciously and learned by
introducing them in the musical
memory.
This ordering can be done
according to segments, that is by
portioning these clusters
corresponding to the number of
sounds they are made up of.
The smallest cluster will
thus consist of three sounds, that
is, two intervals, excluding the
triad configurations. An
important role is however played
by the second interval.
Subsequently clusters are
developed by means of vertical
multiplication of sounds.
Module I, meant for
beginners, will be confined to the
study of clusters made up of three
natural sounds.
