Salutăm cu deosebită satisfac­ţie reformele, cari s ’au anunţat Luni în 24 Februarie în camera română.

Scriitorul acestor rânduri a fost martor la entuziasmul în mijlocul căruia s ’a desfăşurat proiectul de re­vizuire al constituţiei.

Mărturisesc sincer, că poate nici odată n’am simţit un moment mai solemn ca acela, când am văzut cu câtă înţelegere bărbaţii de stat ai României s’au angajat la munca cea mare, care va reorganiza Ro­mânia de eri şi de azi punând-o pe temeliile cele mai solide.

Talpa ţării, ţărănimea nu va mai fi o clasă neglijată, o imenză cantitate fără rost, ci i-se va da şi ei suflet. Marea răsplată pentru înal­tele virtuţi ale acelei ţărănimi seanunţă din locul cel mai chemat.îDorobanţul care în cinci zile a fost la porţile Sofiei va fi răsplătit după merit pentru virtuţile sale de-o stră­lucire fără pereche. Pământul pe care acest dorobanţ l’a apărat cu o vitejie legendară, dar care din ne­norocire nu era al lui, deacum va fi al lui şi el îl va apăra cu mai multă dragoste, cu mai multă îndâr­jire şi patria va avea pentru el un rost cu mult mai înălţător.

Ignorat cu desăvârşire până acum, ţăranul român cu nimic nu se ridica mai presus de starea do­bitoacelor. Şi situaţia lui era adusă ca pildă de ignoranţă şi de decă dere de toţi duşmanii.

Ungurii de pildă deatâteaori ne-au spus, că ţăranul din Ardeal e superior celui din România, că si­tuaţia noastră — a Românilor din Ungaria — e cu mult mai bună decât a mulţimii de heloţi din ţară.

Scriitorul acestor rânduri dea tâteaori a auzit ridicându-se această acuză.

O pildă! Eram la academia de drept din Dobriţin. Un profesor de istorie, de un şovinism neîntrecut, se adresa de atâtea ori cătră noi, un mic grup de ascultători români — cu această acuză. nu ştiam ce să răspund, nu găsiam vorba hotărâtoare, vorba sinceră, grea, cu care să desmint pe profe­sorul şovinist.

Astăzi însă aş şti ce să-i răs­pund. L-aş privi mândru în faţă şi i-aş arăta hotărârea, prin care ţă­ranul român va fi înălţat la rangul de om, căci el e păstrătorul şi sim­bolul existenţei ţării româneşti.

Reforma agrară şi electorală care s’a anunţat în camera română sunt menite să creeze România nouă şi în acelaş timp ele cimentează o conştiinţă care până acum se mişca în cadre de tot flecsibile.

Când se va şti, că soartea mul­ţimii © alta în Ţară, că ţăranul de acolo are pământ, că el e considerat ca cetăţean, că şi el are dreptul de a juca un rol în vieaţa politică, că e pus pe-o treaptă egală cu cei cari până acum erau singurii cari gu­vernau România, atunci cadrele vor deveni mai sigure, conştiinţa naţio­nală nu se va mai clătina, unirea în gânduri şi simţăminte va prinde rădăcini mai adânci, apropierea va fi mai spontană, mai caldă, mai sinceră, îndoiala şi ignoranţa vor dispărea şi pe orizontul vieţii roma* neşti se va afirma tot mai real şi puternic unitatea conştiinţii naţio­nale.

Noi cei de peste hotare, cari luptăm pentru democraţia sinceră, pentru dreptate şi egalitate, cari sun­tem aderenţii votului universal, cari purtăm luptă înverşunată împotriva tendinţelor cari au în vedere spolia- rea noastră economică, urmărim cu deplină satisfacţie traducerea în fap­tă a marilor reforme din Ţară. Ş-am fi deplin mulţâmiţi ş-am aplauda din tot sufletul dacă acestor reforme li se va da cadrele cele mai largi : pământ suficient ţărănim ii şi vot universal tuturor Românilor din Regat. Pentruca să fie o ţară feri­cită, mândră şi glorioasă acolo la gurile Dunării, spre care noi cei de un sânge cu cei deacolo să privim cu dragoste, iar duşmanii s-o res- pecteze.

Bucureşti, 12 Martie. In şe­dinţa de eri a camerei s-a termi­nat discuţia la mesaj votându-se proiectul de răspuns. S-a ales apoi comisiunea, care va duce adresa la Palat.

In consiliul de miniştrii, care s-a ţinut eri la Palat, M. S, Re­gele şi-a exprimat dorinţa ca să se facă în Parlament o discuţie cât mai largă asupra reformelor, pentru a se evita eventuale ne­m ulţum iri. In acelaş timp Suve­ranul şi-a exprim at dorinţa că chiar în actualul Parlament gu­vernul să comunice în linii largi forma în care se vor face refor­mele agrare şi reforma electorală.
