  • 5 FranceAutumn is a traditional season for film festivals,

and some of the most interesting of them will be held in France. The British film festival in Dinard will open for the 23rd time on October 3, gathering famous filmmakers, critics and prominent guests. The most significant new works of the British film industry will compete for the festivals main prize, the Golden Hitchcock. This year, the festival jury will be presided over by Patrick Bruel.

From October 15 till October 21, the Lumiere Film Festival will run in Lyon. The project launched in 2009 has won over both the audience and professionals. Its focus is retrospective screenings of the worlds classics. This year the audience is invited to appreciate the 1929 German work Lulu (Pandora Box) by Georg Wilhelm Pabst.

4 ItalyIn October, Italy attracts truffle eaters, as at this

time of the year, it hosts lots of fairs with tastings and master classes in cooking truffle delicacies and selecting the best wines and products to accompany them. A white truffle festival will open in Alba on October 6. Fairs, competitions, literary nights and even archaeological tours are scheduled during the whole month. Another white truffle fair will run in Moncalvo from October 21 till October 28, and other similar events will be organised in Montiglio Monferrato, Mombercelli and other cities, mostly in the Piedmont region. The Festival of Sacred Music will launch in Rome on October 20, offering a brilliant opportunity to appreciate masterpiece works by great composers performed by the best philharmonic orchestras and choirs.

1SpaInA handful of events in Spain fall on October 12.

This is when the Pilar Festival takes place in Zaragoza in honour of its patroness the Virgin of the Pilar. The celebrations with flowers and fruit and a horse parade would continue through the week. The feast is known for the procession of the giants and big heads. In the Medieval times, the parade used to march with only four figures symbolizing the four cardinal directions. Later the doll procession grew larger, much to the joy of the public.

October 12 is also the historic date when the first Spaniards led by Columbus arrived in America. In 1913, the day became a holiday for the whole Hispanic community. It was declared the Hispanic Day (the Da de la Hispanidad) in 1935 and has been celebrated in many Spanish-speaking countries.

3 GermanyAn unusual race will take place in the Neckar

River in Tuebingen. Taken from their usual peaceful habitats in bathtubs, rubber ducks will participate in the weird competition. With more than 7,000 ducks taking part in it, the race is quite significant, as well as the prize for the owner of the winning duck 1,000 euro. The hosts will encourage their pets from the banks you can imagine the buzz! From October 25 to October 28, the traditional horse show will be held in Hannover. Every year, the event attracts hundreds of professional breeders, jockeys and horse lovers. Central to the programme will be the Hanover championship, Team Trophy and TUI grand-prix.

2 UKCan you imagine an absolute Briton without

the traditional oatmeal for breakfast? It is still a hugely popular choice you can see for yourself at the international oatmeal cooking competition in Carrbridge, Scotland, on October 6. Cooks from across the world will show their excellence creating gastronomic masterpieces with only milk, salt and oat at their disposal. Rigorous judges in Scottish traditional dress, bagpipes, and street performances will reinforce the authentic atmosphere of a traditional British event. October will bring several interesting events for those who admire Robin Hood and his men. Come and visit the heros home city Nottingham. The Robin Hood Beer Festival running at Nottingham castle from October 10 till October 13 will offer hundreds of sorts of beer, cider and ales.

  • 5 Dance oF DeathThe magic charm of Dead Can Dance band is hard to

explain. Critics have described their style as neoclassical ethereal, a branch of dark wave with a light melancholy tone. Creating the unique unparalleled universe, the band draws inspiration from folk music. The mosaic compositions by Dead Can Dance carry fragments of polyrhythmic African music, echoes of Middle Eastern mantras, notes of Polynesian music and Arab songs.

The music of Dead Can Dance absorbs the rich global heritage, transferring it through ages and distances. Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry intertwine the half-forgotten cultural traditions of different countries combining them with their personal emotional impressions to present a unique musical fabric of dreams and visions.

to appeal to a wide and varied audience. The production based on real historic events in Russia will be a valuable present to those who are keen on the Russian history. Besides, an original Russian-language musical is a really unique event in Moscow. The music was composed by Roman Ignatyev with libretto by Yuli Kim. Much attention was paid to the costumes, and the designers have reached above the high standards of the genre: the new production will score even higher than the previous hit Monte Cristo.
